Mastercard, a global leader in payment innovation and digital financial infrastructure, is seeking a Director, SME Sales Specialist (North America) to join its team in Toronto, Ontario. This role sits at the intersection of strategic sales and product enablement, focusing on empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by driving adoption of Mastercard’s innovative payment and financial solutions across North America.
SMEs represent a cornerstone of economic growth across Canada and the United States. Yet many still rely on outdated payment methods, such as cash and checks, which limit their potential for digital transformation. Mastercard aims to change this by delivering secure, scalable digital payment solutions tailored to SME needs, helping businesses grow, scale, and access broader financial tools.
As Director, you will lead a full-cycle, revenue-driven sales strategy, working alongside product, marketing, and ecosystem partners to create impact and expand Mastercard’s SME market share. Your role is pivotal in identifying client pain points, promoting Mastercard’s solutions suite, closing deals, and contributing to product evolution through market insights.
Key Responsibilities:
🔸 Develop and execute a strategic, results-focused sales plan targeting SMEs across North America
🔸 Build and maintain a robust, insights-driven sales pipeline to prioritize and pursue high-potential leads
🔸 Lead direct outreach, foster partnerships, and use market intelligence to identify new clients
🔸 Present Mastercard’s SME product suite to address payment acceptance, spend control, and digital migration needs
🔸 Manage end-to-end sales cycle: lead qualification, deal negotiation, contract closure
🔸 Expand Mastercard’s ecosystem through strategic alliances with fintechs, acquirers, issuers, and other key partners
🔸 Represent Mastercard at relevant events and forums, positioning the brand as a thought leader in the SME digital payments landscape
🔸 Track, measure, and optimize performance metrics to exceed growth goals
🔹 Collaborate with product, marketing, and partnership teams to support go-to-market success
🔹 Analyze market dynamics, SME buyer journeys, and competitor strategies to shape product positioning and differentiation
🔹 Drive partnerships that elevate product value propositions and expand reach
🔹 Lead innovation in B2B and supply chain finance, aligning Mastercard’s solutions with key market opportunities
🔹 Create sales enablement assets and training resources to empower internal SME-focused sales teams
Required Skills and Qualifications:
✅ Passion for supporting SME growth and increasing access to digital financial tools
✅ Deep experience in sales or business development, ideally at a senior level within payments, fintech, or financial services
✅ Experience working with fintech companies, alternative payment platforms, and ecosystem players
✅ Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building capabilities (internal and external)
✅ Outstanding communication, presentation, and influencing skills
✅ Self-starter, strategic thinker, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
✅ Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
✅ Fluent in English; knowledge of French or Spanish is an asset
