Description:
Our client, a leading financial institution, is seeking a Senior Tax Specialist for a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension or conversion to full-time based on business needs and performance.
This is a hybrid role based downtown requiring 3 days per week in office. The successful candidate will support day-to-day Estate & Trust tax work, with peak overtime expected during March and April.
Responsibilities
- Manage, mentor, and train junior staff supporting Estate & Trust tax services.
- Prepare and review complex personal, estate, and trust tax filings, including T1, T1 Terminal (Final), T3 Trusts, and GRE returns.
- Oversee timely and accurate completion of Estate & Trust tax compliance requirements.
- Gather and analyze client information to prepare complex returns with minimal oversight.
- Assign, review, and monitor tax filings to ensure compliance and optimize tax credits.
- Liaise with internal tax teams, trust staff, clients, and external professionals to resolve tax matters and ensure timely filings.
- • Conduct tax research to address issues, support planning opportunities, and provide technical guidance.
- Review CRA assessments and prepare adjustments, objections, and Clearance Certificate requests.
- Respond to CRA information requests and support audit-related inquiries.
- Participate in special projects and take ownership of assigned tax initiatives.
Must-Have Skills
- 3–5+ years of experience in an accounting or tax-related role.
- Strong hands-on experience preparing T1, T1 Terminal (Final), and T3 Trust & Estate returns.
- Familiarity with Graduated Rate Estates (GREs) and related tax considerations.
- Post-secondary degree in Accounting or equivalent discipline.
- Experience using tax preparation software in a paperless environment.
- Strong technical expertise and the ability to conduct tax research independently.
- Demonstrated leadership skills including decision-making, workload management, and staff oversight.
