Description:

CBC News, Canada’s national public broadcaster, is looking for an experienced and dynamic Senior Reporter to join its Vancouver newsroom for a one-year secondment (fixed-term contract). This role is essential in reporting Vancouver and British Columbia news to both national and local audiences across digital, social, radio, and television platforms.

As part of CBC’s English Services, you will be expected to showcase outstanding journalism, advanced storytelling capabilities, and a deep understanding of diverse community perspectives. You will be on the frontlines of reporting with responsibilities that include generating original stories, responding to breaking news, going live on various platforms, and collaborating with national and regional newsrooms.

This position runs from June 2025 to June 2026, with a full-time on-site work requirement (office and field) and Sunday to Thursday schedule. Candidates must adhere to CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and high-performing editorial culture.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, pitch, and deliver original and compelling stories for various platforms

  • File scripts and produce stories ranging from daily news to feature-length content

  • Cover breaking news and developing stories in real-time

  • Present live on digital, streaming, radio, and TV platforms as needed

  • Reflect a diversity of voices and perspectives in all reporting

  • Analyze complex issues and present them in clear, accessible formats

  • Collaborate effectively across local and national editorial teams

  • Develop and maintain source relationships across a wide range of communities

  • Adhere strictly to CBC’s Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies


Candidate Requirements:

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant journalism experience preferred

  • University degree in Journalism or equivalent education is preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Vancouver and British Columbia news and communities

  • Proven live reporting, interviewing, and storytelling skills (audio, video, and text)

  • Strong editorial judgment and attention to journalistic integrity

  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and manage tight deadlines

  • Skilled in using social media platforms for research and distribution

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

  • Available to work full-time, Sunday to Thursday, on-site
