Senior Network Engineer

Location: Mississauga, CAN

Job Summary The tier 3 network engineer will perform pro-active work within the environment to maintain best practices and keep a steady state. The engineer will be responsible for maintaining standards and best practices for network systems. The engineer will serve as an escalation point for Operations and NOC within the support team for network systems. This will include troubleshooting and resolution of re-active incidents as well as root cause determination analysis for customer incidents and problem management. The engineer must possess a high technical aptitude and be able to logically step through a problem even when dealing with unfamiliar environments and products. The engineer will be available for escalations during and after regular business hours. They will communicate with client services and customers as needed regarding incidents and changes. The network engineer must be able to communicate well in written and verbal forms.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years of network experience with firewalls, Load Balancers, routers and switches in both On-Prem and Cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Expert level knowledge of firewall management, preferably with Palo Alto Firewalls and Fortigate Firewalls with a plus having Cisco ASA experience.
  • Expert level understanding and experience with hardware/virtual load balancer administration and support, preferably with F5 BigIP, with a plus in managing Cloud load balancing such as AWS, Azure and OCI environments
  • Expert level of understanding and experience with Zero Trust environments preferably ZScaler
  • Expert level understanding and experience with routing and switching technologies.
  • Expert level understanding and experience with 802.1q, STP, RSTP, MSTP, VLAN, VXLAN, VRF, and BGP
  • Expert level understanding and experience with IPSEC VPN(s) tunnels.
  • Expert TCP/IP packet analysis, using Wireshark or raw packet captures using tcpdump.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with logical problem solving from Layer 1 through Layer 7 of the OSI model.
  • Strong understanding of troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ability to create and follow network architecture principles of design using current industry best practices
  • Mentor and train junior network peers
  • Exhibits mature organization and time management skills.
  • Experience with high availability environment with 99.99% SLA
  • Strong sense of urgency in support of all customers. Ability to understand business requirements for technical needs and utilize the business requirements information to prioritize work, develop solutions, and set urgency for others.
  • Ability to follow policies and procedures that dictate minimum standards for ticket handling, such as customer communication status updates, timelines for escalation, management communication status updates, etc.
  • Understanding of overall business functions and the impact of technical decisions on business results.
  • Exceptional planning skills and ability to work within change control parameters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing customer-focused quality service.
  • Ability to express complex situational information verbally and in written form.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Exceptional documentation skills are required.
  • Ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
