Senior Level Designer

 

Description:

Sinn Studio Inc. is on the hunt for a Senior Level Designer to join their exciting XR combat game project. The studio is well-known for its debut game Swordsman, a physics-based combat game, which has garnered awards and acclaim, such as Game of the Year (2022) and Best Swordfighting Game (2020). This independent contractor role provides the opportunity to work remotely on crafting immersive 3D combat arenas, focusing on enhancing player interaction and gameplay within virtual reality (VR) environments.

You will be responsible for the end-to-end level creation, including conceptualizing, designing, and refining immersive game levels to align with the game's combat and overall fun factor. The role requires expertise in both sandbox and PvP (Player vs. Player) gameplay to ensure balanced and engaging experiences for players.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Level Design & Creation:

    • Design 3D combat arenas and maps that focus on combat and player interactions.

    • Develop level layouts, pacing, and flow that align with the game mechanics and player engagement.

    • Innovate in level design to enhance progression and replayability.

    • Continuously refine and improve design based on feedback, emerging trends, and player metrics.

  • Collaboration & Integration:

    • Work with other disciplines at Sinn Studio to integrate features seamlessly.

    • Develop prototypes and wireframes to clearly communicate design ideas.

    • Engage in continuous design iteration based on player feedback and behavior.

  • Player Engagement & Analysis:

    • Monitor game health to make informed decisions that optimize gameplay.

    • Use metrics and player feedback to refine features and balance the gameplay experience.

    • Engage with the community to address issues and ensure a positive player experience.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in video game design with a focus on level design.

  • 2+ years in a senior position, demonstrating leadership in the design process.

  • Deep understanding of game mechanics, player psychology, and immersive design principles.

  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine and experience with Blueprints.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with various teams.

  • Familiarity with VR environments and the ability to work in extended reality settings.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work with tight deadlines.

Added Advantages:

  • Experience with VR/MR/XR development.

  • Experience in PC and console game development (preferred over mobile).

  • Post-secondary education in Level Design, Interactive Media, or a related field.

  • Knowledge of tools like nVidia Omniverse or Houdini.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $50.00 - $57.00 CAD per hour

  • Commitment: Contract, with flexible hours ranging from 0 to 40 hours per week.

  • Note: This is a contract role with no benefits or vacation pay. Contractors are responsible for managing their own taxes and tools.
