Deloitte, one of Canada’s largest professional services firms, is seeking an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel (Technology) to join its Office of the General Counsel (OGC) team. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will serve as a trusted legal advisor to internal business clients, leading major technology and commercial transactions and mentoring other legal professionals. The role combines leadership, negotiation, and strategic advisory responsibilities in a fast-paced corporate environment.
Lead, structure, draft, and negotiate complex technology-related commercial transactions, including:
Master Services Agreements (MSAs)
Statements of Work (SOWs)
SaaS, License, and Cloud Service Agreements
Implementation and Managed Services Agreements
Cybersecurity and Professional Services Contracts
Advise business units on legal risks and propose practical, creative solutions to mitigate exposure.
Negotiate and manage cross-border agreements with global partners and clients.
Provide strategic counsel and act as a thought leader in technology law and commercial contracting.
Mentor junior lawyers and contribute to the development of legal best practices across the organization.
Collaborate closely with business and corporate stakeholders to deliver exceptional service outcomes.
Support departmental initiatives, including knowledge management, policy development, and process optimization.
Build and maintain effective relationships with internal clients and external partners.
Bachelor’s Degree and Law Degree (LL.B. or J.D.) required.
Active membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or another Canadian province.
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in corporate/commercial law, ideally within a technology or professional services environment.
Proven track record in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating:
Technology contracts, IP licensing, cloud computing, and cybersecurity agreements.
Managed services and implementation contracts.
Expertise in Technology Law, Intellectual Property, Privacy, and AI-related legal issues is advantageous.
Experience across sectors such as financial services, public sector, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, and energy.
Strong leadership abilities with prior experience mentoring or managing legal teams.
Excellent communication, analytical, and negotiation skills, capable of engaging confidently with senior executives.
Bilingual proficiency (English required; French an asset due to national and international client interaction).
Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure environments with multiple competing priorities.
Annual Salary: $140000 – $260000 (approx. $11666 – $21666 per month).
