Senior Front-end Engineer

Description:

Manulife is seeking an experienced Senior Front-End Engineer to join its Global Design System team. This role is critical in building and maintaining enterprise-grade reusable React-based components that enable consistency, efficiency, accessibility, and innovation across Manulife’s digital products in North America and Asia. You will play a key role in translating design specifications into functional components, partnering with design, engineering, and product teams to ensure seamless adoption across business units.

As part of the company’s global technology organization, you will work within a cross-functional team to drive enterprise-wide digital transformation. This position requires strong technical expertise in React and front-end technologies, as well as the ability to understand organizational and cultural complexities when embedding a global design system.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain reusable UI components within Manulife’s global enterprise-grade design system.

• Collaborate with cross-regional design and engineering teams to implement design system specifications.

• Ensure system sustainability through high-quality coding practices, code reviews, and documentation.

• Contribute to the full software development lifecycle of the design system React component library, including mobile and web applications.

• Balance global standardization with local and regional customization needs.

• Maintain accessibility compliance (WCAG) and ensure performance optimization across platforms.

• Support training, onboarding, and community initiatives to drive adoption.

• Track KPIs to measure adoption, efficiency, and business impact.

• Stay updated with industry trends and emerging front-end technologies to provide strategic recommendations.

Qualifications – Required:

• 5+ years of professional front-end engineering experience.

• Strong expertise in React JS, JavaScript, and/or TypeScript.

• Hands-on experience building front-end solutions using modern frameworks (React, Angular).

• Proficiency in responsive design and single-page application development.

• Strong understanding of modern CSS and HTML practices.

• Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and performance optimization.

• Experience with modern front-end build tooling (Rollup, ESlint, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with additional frameworks such as Angular or Vue.

• Background in Agile, Lean UX, and enterprise digital delivery models.

• Experience working in multilingual, multicultural, and regulated environments.
