Senior Financial Analyst Policy Tax
The total target compensation (TTC) range, including salary and target bonus, is $87,200 - $136,250. This TTC range is applicable to permanent roles only; fixed-term contract and casual roles are not eligible for annual bonus and would receive only the base salary component.

What you’ll be working on
- Prepare and review the monthly and annual reconciliations of tax accounts
- Ensure the accurate completion of complex policyholder tax reporting for investor accounts (e.g., customer tax slips, RRSP contribution receipts, TFSA filing) and government filings
- Support the annual estate settlement process
- Proactively drive day-to-day workflows while aggressively pursuing and implementing automation opportunities, acting as an agent of change within the team.
- Document current-state policyholder tax processes and translating calculation logic into standardized templates.
- Assist in UAT and data validation
- Continuously review and identify areas of improvement in policies and procedures, challenging the status quo to ensure they are consistent and compliant with tax legislation, regulatory requirements and industry practices. Lead, and/or oversee departmental projects.
- Collaborate with other business units and departments on special project work and participate in departmental projects as required.
- Act as a subject matter expert for the annual year-end tax process, taking the lead on supporting and driving tax-related system changes
- Act as a technical escalation point for situations relating to taxation issues to ensure compliance through accurate and timely reporting to regulatory bodies
- Provide technical and research support to ensure Empire Life is compliant with federal, provincial, local and applicable foreign and domestic tax laws and regulations
- Maintain process control inventories and ensure compliance with internal controls
What we’re looking for you to have
- 3+ years of experience with Canadian tax.
- Knowledge of insurance/risk and wealth products, including universal life, whole life, term life and policyholder tax.
- Proficiency with Unitrax and Product knowledge is a must.
- Knowledge of Canadian corporate tax legislation and experience conducting tax research.
- Completion of a university degree with courses in accounting, finance, taxation, audit, management and business administration
- Strong proficiency with Excel tools (Advanced Excel, Modelling, Power Query)
- Go-Getter Mindset: High degree of initiative, curiosity, and drive. Proven ability to operate as a self-starter who anticipates challenges and proactively proposes solutions
- Experienced in working with data as well as transformation or implementations of system
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision and oversight
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Key competencies include initiative, judgment, analytical thinking, problem solving and decision making. Core competencies include process mapping and workflow documentation.
- The incumbent must have well-developed organizational skills and great attention to detail/accuracy.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, an asset.
- FLMI designation is an asset
