Description:
Trans Canada Trail is seeking a Director of Finance to lead the organization’s financial operations and strategy, supporting its mission through sound financial management and innovative analytical approaches. This leadership role involves managing daily financial operations, preparing accurate financial reports, ensuring regulatory compliance, overseeing grants, and leading system enhancements and migrations. The role will be remote, open to candidates residing and eligible to work in Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Operations: Oversee daily accounting activities including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and general ledger. Maintain accurate financial records and master lists of contracts and grants.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies. Safeguard financial integrity.
Reporting: Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reconciliations. Support audit processes.
Grants: Lead grant writing, application submission, and ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements for all grants and contracts.
Nonprofit Expertise: Apply deep understanding of nonprofit finance to improve budgeting, reporting, and forecasting.
Business Analytics: Use financial data to support strategic decisions. Provide actionable insights through trend analysis.
System Migration: Lead transition to QuickBooks Online and integrate financial systems with other tools.
Technology Use: Utilize Power Platform and PowerBI to develop dashboards and automate workflows.
Budgeting: Assist in budget creation and track forecasts in alignment with organizational priorities.
Team Leadership: Supervise and develop finance team members, setting clear goals and expectations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field (Master’s or CPA preferred).
7–10 years of progressive finance experience, with nonprofit and leadership experience.
Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365 (MS Teams, SharePoint, MS Planner), Power Platform, and PowerBI.
Strong understanding of nonprofit grant writing and compliance.
Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting financial data to non-financial audiences.
Proven team leadership capabilities.
