Description:
Michels Canada, a nationally recognized general contractor specializing in energy, infrastructure, and power construction, is seeking a Senior Estimator, Civil Infrastructure to join its growing preconstruction team. This role plays a critical part in bidding for major civil infrastructure projects including open-cut trenching, tunneling (large and micro), shaft construction, structural formwork, and foundations.
Based in one of Michels’ Canadian offices — Concord (ON), Nisku (AB), Coquitlam (BC), or Calgary (AB) — the Senior Estimator will collaborate closely with estimators, proposal specialists, and project managers to prepare detailed cost estimates and support tender processes across complex infrastructure undertakings.

Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates, budgets, and bid documents for major civil infrastructure projects
Analyze project drawings and specifications, conduct quantity take-offs, and draft risk matrices
Participate in site walkthroughs, project site meetings, and review geotechnical conditions
Coordinate subcontractor/vendor engagement and quote collection
Support the Senior Project Manager in the tendering phase and assist in setting up successful project frameworks
Contribute to preconstruction planning and ongoing project management post-award
Ensure compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations
Identify, communicate, and help correct unsafe practices or conditions
Foster strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent trade experience
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in construction cost estimation and fieldwork
Experience with a large General Contractor and pursuit leadership of projects ranging from $10M to $250M
Proficiency in self-perform estimation, productivity modeling, and construction sequencing
Knowledge of bid preparation, procurement, and contract terms
Expertise in estimating Water/Wastewater, Open Cut, and Tunnel projects
Familiarity with Heavy Bid estimating software
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Prior team leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Ability to develop productive relationships with industry stakeholders
Must be fluent in English (written and verbal)
