Senior Designer

Description:

Flynn Group of Companies, one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, is seeking a Senior Designer to join their Engineering and Design Division in Mississauga, Ontario. This position is responsible for designing packages for awarded projects, supporting BIM Specialists, Drafting, and Job Captains, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality project outcomes for modular unitized systems. The Senior Designer will also work closely with the Business Development team during the bidding stage by preparing early concept and project-specific design packages. Additionally, this role supports the Research & Development team in the future development of systems and design innovations tailored to project pursuits.

The role requires strong technical expertise in 2D CAD, 3D modeling (Inventor), and Revit, as well as the ability to manage complex design challenges while collaborating with various stakeholders including manufacturing, installation, and quality control teams. The Senior Designer will be expected to demonstrate a strong understanding of building science, construction sequencing, and compliance with building codes and performance requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver project-specific packages, ensuring accuracy and compliance with specifications, codes, and performance standards.

• Recognize and resolve complex Speedwall detailing issues and apply knowledge of curtain wall construction methods.

• Read and interpret Architectural and Structural drawings, foresee and address design-related issues proactively.

• Organize and schedule projects, resolve drawing issues, and provide clarifications on contracts as needed.

• Prepare shop drawing packages, assembly manuals, and installation guides tailored to specific projects.

• Generate design packages for the preconstruction team during project pursuits.

• Assist with Visual Mock-Ups (VMU) and Performance Mock-Ups (PMU) for projects.

• Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, installation, and quality control teams.

• Support the R&D team with system development and improvements.

Qualifications:

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering, or Building Science.

• 8–10 years of experience in a similar senior design role.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Revit.

• Strong ability to read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.

• Highly motivated with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
