Senior Design Manager

FCC Construcción, a global leader in engineering and infrastructure with over a century of experience, is expanding its presence in Canada. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Manager to lead the design and delivery of complex underground station projects in Toronto, Ontario. FCC has been involved in landmark projects across Canada, including the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion and the Fredericton-Moncton Highway.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all design activities for large-scale underground station projects, ensuring alignment with schedules, budgets, and strict compliance with regulatory requirements. You will provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary teams, develop and maintain design management plans, and prepare Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to facilitate smooth project execution.

Your responsibilities will include managing the construction strategy, handling submissions for building permits, fostering collaboration between design and construction teams, and ensuring seamless integration with stakeholders. You will also conduct impact assessments of design changes, manage interfaces between systems integration, testing, and commissioning, and mentor junior engineers and managers to promote professional development.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and oversee delivery of design activities for underground station projects.

• Provide strategic direction to multidisciplinary teams ensuring project goals are met.

• Develop and maintain design management plans and prepare ICDs.

• Ensure compliance with contractual, safety, and regulatory standards.

• Manage building permit submissions and regulatory approvals.

• Conduct impact assessments of design changes on schedule, cost, and requirements.

• Interface with project teams, stakeholders, and contractors to monitor design progress.

• Oversee engineering administration, documentation, and reporting.

• Mentor and guide junior staff, promoting a culture of excellence.

Education & Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in design management, preferably in underground transit infrastructure.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Primavera P6, and related design software.

• Strong leadership and project management skills.

• Experience with Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) projects is an asset.

Job Requirements:

• Proven expertise in delivering underground station projects from design to commissioning.

• Strong knowledge of regulatory, safety, and environmental standards.

• Ability to manage large design documentation packages.

• Excellent leadership, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.

• Experience in integrating with existing transit systems preferred.
