Senior Data Scientist

Carta is seeking a Senior Data Scientist I to join its Data Science team in Waterloo, Ontario. In this role, you will be instrumental in transforming how Carta utilizes data to support strategic initiatives and product innovations within the evolving private capital markets.

The company’s vision is to build a connected and intelligent system that simplifies fund administration, equity management, and investment lifecycle services for venture capital, private equity, and private credit.

As a Senior Data Scientist, your primary mission will be to support product and business teams by establishing standardized metrics, deriving actionable insights, and building data products that inform business strategies. You will lead efforts to document and automate key business and product metrics, instrument new features, and identify historical trends to support customer and user behavior analysis. Your work will have direct impact on product releases, operational efficiency, and decision-making across the organization.

This is a hybrid position that offers flexibility while working closely with a cross-functional team of analysts, engineers, and product managers. Carta values collaboration, continuous learning, and technical excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define, document, and automate standardized core business and product metrics

• Collaborate with product managers and business partners to develop KPIs and success measures for new initiatives

• Analyze product usage and customer behavior to uncover opportunities for improvement

• Build statistical models and conduct experiments to support data-driven decision-making

• Present findings and strategic recommendations to stakeholders, including executives

• Enhance and optimize existing dashboards and data pipelines to improve usability and accessibility

• Conduct training sessions to enable self-service analytics across non-technical teams

• Partner with peers across the data team to design and develop innovative data products

Key Requirements:

• At least 5 years of experience in data science or product analytics roles

• Strong proficiency in SQL, Python, and data modeling using dbt

• Experience working with modern data stacks such as Snowflake, Looker, and Metabase

• Familiarity with Git-based workflows for version control and code collaboration

• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with a keen attention to detail

• Strong interpersonal communication skills with ability to explain complex topics to diverse audiences

• Self-starter mindset with ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
