Description:
Senior Cyber Underwriter – Group & Reinsurance Treaty will be responsible for driving growth and expanding HSB Canada’s Cyber treaty reinsurance business. This role will focus on identifying new market opportunities, developing and maintaining strong relationships with key reinsurance partners, and structuring innovative Cyber reinsurance solutions. With underwriting and portfolio management expertise supported by the AVP of Cyber Practice the Senior Cyber Underwriter – Group & Reinsurance Treaty will help lead business development efforts to expand HSB’s Cyber treaty presence in Canada
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Market Expansion:
- Identify and pursue new Cyber treaty opportunities with insurers, MGAs, and brokers.
- Develop and execute strategies to grow HSB’s Cyber treaty portfolio in Canada.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cedants, brokers, and industry stakeholders.
- Represent HSB at industry conferences and client meetings, strengthening our brand and market influence.
- Negotiate and structure treaty agreements to drive profitable growth while managing risk exposure.
Portfolio Management & Oversight:
- Underwrite and manage a profitable book of Cyber treaty and group business.
- Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, and ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and risk management teams to optimize treaty terms and balance risk/reward.
- Provide input into portfolio-level decisions to ensure sustainable profitability and growth.
Strategic Growth & Partnerships:
- Work with internal teams to develop innovative Cyber treaty products and solutions.
- Align treaty strategy with HSB’s broader Cyber portfolio objectives.
- Stay ahead of emerging Cyber risks, regulatory changes, and market trends.
Mentorship & Leadership:
- Mentor and coach junior underwriters, fostering a culture of learning and development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Insurance, Business, Economics, or related field; advanced designations (CIP, FCIP, CRM) preferred.
- 7–10+ years of experience in reinsurance, cyber underwriting, or treaty business development.
- Proven track record in building and growing reinsurance treaty partnerships and portfolios.
- Strong relationship management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Deep understanding of reinsurance structures, cyber risk trends, and market dynamics.
- Analytical, entrepreneurial, and proactive approach to business development.
- Experience mentoring or leading teams.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel as needed for client/broker meetings and industry events.
