Mozilla, the mission-driven technology company behind products like Firefox, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join its growing Ads Product team. This team is focused on developing privacy-respecting, values-aligned display advertising within Mozilla products, including Firefox, MDN, and Pocket. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining core backend systems to support Mozilla’s advertising initiatives, providing expert guidance to product teams across the organization.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be self-directed in your work, capable of breaking down complex product strategies into actionable deliverables, and skilled in mentoring junior engineers. You will serve as a go-to resource for backend advertising technologies within Mozilla, actively contributing to innovation in privacy-preserving ad tech while ensuring high quality and speed in project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend systems for Mozilla’s ad products

• Translate product strategies into executable projects and deliver results on time

• Mentor junior engineers and guide them in risk management and escalation

• Collaborate across product teams to share technical expertise in advertising systems

• Ensure backend systems are scalable, reliable, and privacy-preserving

Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience

• Proven track record of leading and delivering large-scale backend systems

• Experience in one or more of the following: Golang, Rust, or Java

• Strong ability to work effectively in a distributed team with excellent asynchronous and verbal communication skills
