Senior Backend Engineer

Description:

Samsara, a leader in Connected Operations™ Cloud, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Developer Experience team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing platform tooling to enhance productivity for engineers, including improving CI/CD systems, developer environments, and unit/integration testing capabilities. This role requires deep collaboration with cross-functional teams to create efficient processes and maintain high standards for application delivery.

You will have the opportunity to shape and improve tools and processes that allow Samsara engineers to build, release, and operate scalable applications while maintaining a focus on safety, scalability, and efficiency. Your work will directly impact the industries that run our world, including agriculture, construction, transportation, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build platform tooling that enables product teams to manage delivery and operations of their services.

• Improve the efficiency of feature delivery through understanding engineering pain points and proposing solutions.

• Create best practices to ensure engineers deliver the best customer experience.

• Collaborate with Design, Product, Customer Success, and Engineering to create aligned impact.

• Guide projects from ideation to implementation, feedback, and improvement.

• Embody Samsara's cultural principles such as focusing on customer success and building for the long term.

Minimum Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional experience with modern development practices.

• Strong programming fundamentals in Java, Python, or Golang.

• Experience designing and architecting high-scale systems.

• Experience improving and scaling CI/CD systems.

• Strong mentorship and communication skills.

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).

• Knowledge of observability tools and frameworks.

• Proficiency with UNIX shell and Linux systems.

• Ability to think about systems, their life cycles, and failure modes.

• Collaborative mindset, working with diverse teams across frontend, mobile, firmware, ML/computer vision, etc.

• Competitive salary range of $142,800—$184,800 CAD annually.
