Description:
The Associate / Sr. Associate of M&A will support the Sr. Director of M&A throughout the entire M&A life cycle from lead generation through to closing transactions. The expectation is the candidate will be able to lead transactions independently as their career progresses.
Work Experience/Profile:
- 4+ years of progressive work experience at a top tier accounting, capital advisory, investment banking, management consulting and/or private equity firm, with 1-3 years of mid-market deal experience executing transactions.
- Experience working with small owner-managed businesses as a client/target.
- Buy side experience is a plus but not required.
- CPA, CA designation / CFA/ and/or MBA are considered assets but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal & written) with an emphasis on relationships and report writing.
- Expertise in building financial models and preparing supporting analysis with strong attention to detail. Advanced Excel skills are required.
- Willing to work flexible hours and travel when required to close transactions.
- Experience evaluating key risks and opportunities in a business is an asset but not required.
- Confidence and polish is required for frequent interaction with Senior Executives, Business Owners, Investment Bankers, Lawyers, Accountants, and other key Stakeholders.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the Sr. Director of M&A throughout the entire M&A process with the opportunity to independently lead the acquisition process from start to finish in time.
- Qualify targets for fit and deal probability through leading early conversations with business owners/senior executives and review of initial diligence materials
- Perform detailed financial analysis on the financial statements and underlying data to identify trends and assess business strength and quality
- Build a detailed financial model in Excel to determine valuation and present offers to Senior Leaders of the M&A team.
- Drive the entire due diligence process and coordinate across multiple internal teams (tax, HR, legal, finance etc.). Complete and/or review the operational models and investment memos to support the investment thesis.
- Maintain relationships with decision makers at acquisition targets.
