Senior Accountant

Echelon Insurance, a trusted Canadian provider of Personal and Commercial Specialty Insurance solutions, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Finance team in Mississauga, ON. This hybrid role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional with a strong understanding of the P&C insurance sector and IFRS 17 standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, overseeing automation projects, and driving process improvements across key finance operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead finance automation projects in collaboration with IT teams

• Prepare and review accurate financial statements in line with IFRS 17 standards

• Manage closing activities for underwriting and reinsurance systems

• Review and reconcile bank accounts and clearing accounts

• Process monthly and quarterly account reconciliations and adjusting entries

• Prepare monthly commission entries and reinsurance financial reports

• Conduct internal audits and recommend improvements

• Support regulatory reporting (e.g., quarterly and annual P&C1 statements)

• Provide strategic financial insights for internal planning and controls

• Assist in year-end audits, including preparation of working papers and variance analysis

Qualifications:

• University degree or college diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• CPA designation (CA, CMA, CGA) is required

• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar role

• Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance accounting is mandatory

• Proficiency in IFRS 17 and regulatory reporting

• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills

• High level of accuracy and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Strong communication, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities
