Security Duty Manager

 

Description:

The Pacific National Exhibition (PNE), a 115-year-old non-profit organization in British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Security Duty Manager to oversee the safety, security, and operational management of live events hosted at the PNE. This position plays a vital role in ensuring seamless event execution while maintaining the highest standards of guest experience and staff performance. The role requires a professional who is capable of handling diverse public events with varying operational complexities, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and leading a team effectively under dynamic conditions.

As a Security Duty Manager, you will act as the primary on-site point of contact for operational and security-related matters. This includes pre-event preparation, active event supervision, incident response, post-event evaluation, and reporting. Your leadership and problem-solving skills will directly impact the safety and satisfaction of guests, as well as the efficiency of event operations.


Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Event Duties:

  • Participate in pre-event briefings to understand event details, schedules, and security plans.

  • Conduct site walkthroughs with management to identify safety or operational concerns.

  • Ensure all assigned staff meet uniform and deportment standards before deployment.

Event Operations:

  • Serve as the main operational contact during events.

  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and crowd control measures.

  • Monitor staff performance, addressing minor infractions promptly and professionally.

  • Respond to guest inquiries and manage access, crowd flow, and emergency preparedness.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (ticketing, first aid, etc.) for seamless event execution.

Incident Management & Reporting:

  • Handle routine disciplinary matters, including verbal warnings and staff reassignment.

  • Escalate serious incidents as per protocols.

  • Prepare accurate incident documentation and submit reports on time.

Post-Event Activities:

  • Participate in debrief sessions and share feedback on operational improvements.

  • Submit incident reports, staff performance notes, and post-event summaries.

  • Recommend strategies for future event planning and staff training.


Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the events industry.

  • Active Advanced Security Training (AST) License.

  • Proven track record in managing diverse public events.

  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.

  • Familiarity with crowd management, security operations, and incident escalation.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.

  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check is mandatory.
