Akkodis is seeking an Information Technology Security Consultant to provide advanced IT security support and implementation for a Government of Canada client based in Ottawa.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining and strengthening classified IT environments by conducting threat analysis, vulnerability assessments, and implementing security infrastructure solutions such as firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and cryptographic devices.
This position demands deep technical expertise in network and cybersecurity protocols, incident response, and secure system design, combined with hands-on experience in government or defence IT environments.
Provide 3rd-line IT security support for complex incidents, including root cause analysis and resolution.
Review, analyze, and apply networking and Internet security protocols (TCP/IP) as needed.
Identify and mitigate threats and vulnerabilities in IT infrastructure through monitoring and detection systems.
Design, test, and implement updates to operating systems and security infrastructure.
Install, configure, and maintain firewalls, content filters, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
Produce detailed technical documentation, testing procedures, and implementation plans.
Evaluate and implement security solutions proposed by external or defence organizations.
Valid GOC Top Secret Security Clearance (file number required with application).
Minimum 3 years (within last 5) working within a GOC Secret or higher classified network.
Minimum 10 years’ experience managing IT infrastructures and systems, including:
Microsoft Network Operating Systems, or
IP Networks, or
Applications Integration.
Proven experience designing and maintaining security networking equipment, such as:
Guards & Gateways
Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS/IPS)
Firewalls
Cryptographic Devices
Border Protection Systems
Data Diodes
Advanced working knowledge of Layer 7 security protocols and tools.
Experience working in a National Defence or classified government environment.
Hands-on experience with:
Firewalls: Cisco, Palo Alto
Routing/Switching, DNS, Proxy configurations
Proficiency with Layer 7 security technologies such as:
HTTP/SMTP protocols
Web Application Firewalls (WAF)
Mail Guards, Trustwave MailMarshal
McAfee Web Gateway or Chat Gateway
Skyhigh
Education: Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related IT field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in high-security environments.
In-depth understanding of cyber defence and threat mitigation techniques.
Excellent documentation and communication abilities.
Ability to operate effectively within classified, high-compliance government networks.
Proactive and self-motivated with a focus on precision and reliability.
On-site role (5 days/week) at the client’s Ottawa facility.
Requires work within secure network environments under government compliance.
Collaboration with cross-functional teams in a classified infrastructure context.
