The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research organization affiliated with McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine, is seeking a Science Lead, Projects and Initiatives for the Institute of Circulatory and Respiratory Health (ICRH). This position offers an exceptional opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge national and international research initiatives focused on improving human health through scientific discovery and innovation.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying research priorities, developing funding opportunities, building partnerships, and translating research findings into practical health solutions. Working closely with the Scientific Director and Associate Director, the Science Lead will contribute to ICRH’s mission of advancing scientific excellence in circulatory and respiratory health while supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in all initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning and Management (50%)

  • Plan, design, and draft research funding opportunities aligned with ICRH’s mandate and strategic priorities.

  • Lead the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of research projects and programs.

  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination to ensure successful project completion.

  • Oversee special projects, workshops, and research activities that promote innovation and collaboration across Canada.

2. Science Strategy (30%)

  • Identify emerging research needs, opportunities, and gaps in Canada’s circulatory and respiratory health ecosystem.

  • Provide scientific insight and integrate innovative research findings into ICRH’s programs and funding initiatives.

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of research impacts and develop tools for data collection and evaluation.

  • Support knowledge mobilization activities to promote evidence-based practices and enhance research impact.

  • Contribute to policy development and represent ICRH on federal and national research working groups.

3. Liaison, Communication, and Partnerships (20%)

  • Act as a spokesperson for the Institute, building and maintaining relationships with research communities, media, and national/international partners.

  • Prepare scientific reports, policy briefs, presentations, and environmental scans for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Represent the Institute at national and international meetings, enhancing visibility and collaboration.

  • Develop communication materials and business cases to support ICRH’s research and policy initiatives.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Education: Doctorate (PhD) in a relevant discipline (heart, lung, brain/stroke, blood, vessels, critical care, or sleep).

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 5 years of advanced training in a research, clinical, or health-related field.

    • Minimum 5 years in a leadership or research project coordination role.

  • Languages: Excellent command of French and English (spoken and written).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong understanding of Canadian funding organizations and CIHR structures.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Core Competencies:

    • Strong organizational and analytical abilities.

    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    • Ability to manage confidential information and multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

    • Strategic thinker with demonstrated leadership, diplomacy, and initiative.


Work Details:

  • Status: Temporary, Full-Time

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  • Work Location: 2155 Guy Street, Montreal, QC (Hybrid – 3 days on-site, flexible remote options).


Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive annual salary: $62,389.60 – $115,824.80, based on qualifications.

  • Vacation & Leave: 4 weeks vacation (5th week after 5 years), 12 paid personal/sick/family days, 13 paid holidays.
