Sales Associate

 

Description:

The Sales Associate supports clients residing in The Salvation Army shelter by providing administrative assistance, facility support, and client engagement. This role ensures a safe, clean, and respectful environment while upholding the organization’s mission, values, and code of conduct.

The position involves direct interaction with vulnerable individuals and requires professionalism, compassion, strong boundaries, and the ability to respond to difficult or crisis situations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete assigned tasks from cleaning and organizing lists.

  • Assist with daily shelter operations, including laundry, light cleaning, and food prep.

  • Support clients by offering guidance, practical assistance, and referrals when needed.

  • Serve as first point of contact for non-emergency situations.

  • Maintain logs, incident reports, and administrative records accurately.

  • Enforce shelter policies and support program delivery.

  • Communicate with external agencies, community groups, police, and referral sources as required.

  • Maintain confidentiality, respect, and empathy for all clients.

  • Provide accurate documentation to support internal staff and program needs.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.

  • Emergency First Aid & CPR, Non-Violence Training, Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

  • Minimum one year experience in a social services or community support environment (preferred).

  • Understanding of professional boundaries, confidentiality, and trauma-informed care.

  • Ability to de-escalate situations and work with vulnerable populations.

  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accurate documentation.

  • Comfortable working in environments involving stress, exposure to bodily fluids, odors, and challenging behavior.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and manage moderate physical activity.

Additional Requirements:

  • Clear vulnerable sector screening and background check.

  • Clean driver’s abstract (if applicable).

  • Completion of online Armatus Abuse Training and internal Health & Safety training.

  • Compliance with OH&S regulations and Salvation Army policies.

  • Ability to work shift hours; environment may include exposure to infectious diseases, drug/alcohol use, and unpredictable behavior.
