Risk Advisor

Description:

Apex Systems is hiring a Risk Advisor (Intermediate/Senior level) to support a leading Big 5 Bank in Toronto. This 6-month contract role offers the potential to extend or convert into a permanent position and provides a great opportunity to contribute to enterprise-wide risk management initiatives.

You will be embedded in a dynamic and collaborative risk management team, where you will utilize your knowledge in Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), internal controls testing, and banking regulations to strengthen the institution’s internal control frameworks. You’ll play a key role in identifying process improvements, reducing backlog, and ensuring strong risk oversight.

Key Responsibilities:

• GRC Application: Apply GRC principles to support enterprise risk and control functions.

• Controls Testing: Conduct or assist in testing internal controls, identifying gaps and proposing improvements.

• Process Optimization: Spot inefficiencies in current risk processes and suggest actionable improvements.

• Stakeholder Communication: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring alignment on key initiatives.

• Project Management: Organize and manage tasks with precision, ensuring timely delivery of milestones.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field (preferred).

• 3–5 years of hands-on experience in risk management, internal controls, internal audit, or compliance.

• In-depth understanding of GRC frameworks and regulatory standards (Basel, FFIEC, etc.).

• Experience with controls testing methodologies is a strong asset.

• Prior experience in the banking industry is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with project management principles and coordination skills.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

• Sharp attention to detail, with a proactive and problem-solving approach.

• Ability to work independently while being a team player.

Start Date: May 2025
Contract Duration: 6 months (with possible extension or conversion)
Work Hours: 37.5 hours/week
