The Return to Work Specialist leads and coordinates return-to-work (RTW) activities for at-risk cases to ensure suitable and sustainable outcomes. The role involves developing customized RTW plans, addressing barriers, and facilitating accommodations for injured or ill workers while educating employers and employees on their rights and responsibilities.
Lead RTW planning and coordination using a customer-centric approach.
Conduct assessments and identify obstacles to return-to-work, recommending tailored interventions.
Develop, implement, and monitor RTW plans, including accommodations and vocational rehabilitation.
Educate workers and employers about RTW processes, policies, and legislative obligations.
Facilitate workplace meetings, mediate disputes, and resolve barriers to RTW.
Liaise with healthcare providers, internal teams, and external partners to drive outcomes.
Maintain accurate documentation of RTW activities and compliance with WSIB protocols.
Obtain Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) certification within three years (if not already held).
Education: University undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (or equivalent via education/experience 2:1 equivalency).
Experience: 1–3 years in return to work, disability management, vocational rehabilitation, alternate dispute resolution, or clinical rehabilitation.
Licenses: Valid Ontario G class driver’s license (or Class 5 for Quebec).
Certification: CDMP designation (or willingness to obtain within three years).
Strong communication, negotiation, and case management skills.
Knowledge of disability management principles, AODA compliance, and RTW best practices.
