Restoration Manager

 

Description:

Metrolinx, a prominent agency of the Government of Ontario responsible for delivering integrated transportation across the Greater Golden Horseshoe, is currently hiring multiple Restoration Managers on an 18-month contract basis. These roles are embedded within the Environmental Programs and Assessment - Restoration Planning (EPA-RP) Group and play a pivotal role in supporting major transit infrastructure initiatives, such as GO Expansion, LRT projects, and subway developments.

The Restoration Manager will be responsible for overseeing critical environmental initiatives, including the implementation of restoration plans, ecological assessments, and vegetation management strategies to support sustainable infrastructure delivery. The selected professionals will work closely with municipal partners, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and the Metrolinx Vegetation Guidelines throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead environmental restoration initiatives including natural heritage assessments, species at risk evaluations, and the creation of restoration and monitoring plans.

  • Provide subject matter expertise on ecological issues such as tree inventories, habitat creation, vegetation removal strategies, and invasive species control.

  • Guide project teams through the integration of environmental protocols during design, procurement, and construction phases.

  • Ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks by assisting with environmental approvals, permits, and compliance obligations.

  • Represent Metrolinx in public, Indigenous, and municipal forums regarding sensitive ecological impacts and restoration efforts.

  • Collaborate with conservation authorities, municipalities, and NGOs to develop and implement ecological compensation strategies such as tree giveaways, planting programs, and seed collection initiatives.

  • Track and report on environmental data using tools like GIS and Excel, contributing to internal decision-making and accountability reporting.

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to environmental professionals, ensuring timely and efficient project delivery.

  • Participate in public communication initiatives regarding environmental impacts and Metrolinx's restoration commitments.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.

  • Demonstrated expertise in ecological restoration, environmental assessments, vegetation studies, and species at risk management.

  • Proven leadership experience managing environmental professionals and guiding multi-disciplinary project teams.

  • Strong knowledge of Ontario and federal environmental regulations, including EA processes and species protection laws.

  • Proficient in data management and spatial analysis using Excel, GIS, and reporting tools.

  • Experience working in or with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and Indigenous communities.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, especially in sensitive and high-impact project environments.

  • Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license with a good driving record for travel to project sites and meetings.
