The Salvation Army in Canada is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Residential Worker B to join their residential support team in Courtenay, BC. With a legacy of over 130 years, The Salvation Army is a Christian-based, non-profit organization serving over 2 million individuals annually across Canada and Bermuda, offering essential services including shelter, food, addiction support, and more. The Residential Worker B will be responsible for ensuring the safety, support, and daily functioning of the residential shelter. Core duties include client supervision, intake processing, food service, conflict resolution, recordkeeping, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility. The role also entails providing referrals to community resources and supporting clients’ personal needs in a respectful and compassionate manner.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and supervise residents, promoting safety, dignity, and adherence to shelter rules

  • Complete intake procedures, interview clients, and provide orientation

  • Assist with conflict resolution and maintain daily documentation and shift logs

  • Clean and maintain shelter facilities, including laundry services, room setup, and basic building upkeep

  • Prepare and serve meals to residents

  • Provide community referrals and resource information

Working Conditions:

  • On-site role within a shelter environment

  • Exposure to difficult situations including strong odors, bodily fluids, and individuals in crisis

  • Physical demands include lifting up to 25 pounds, navigating stairs, and frequent bending

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma

  • 1–2 year certificate in Social Services (or equivalent education and experience)

  • Current certification in First Aid/CPR, Foodsafe, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

  • Completion of WHMIS and Praesidum Academy training

  • Must pass Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks and TSA Abuse Registry clearance

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $24.73 to $25.73

  • Placement based on candidate experience, internal equity, and qualifications
