Description:

Queen’s University is seeking Residence Life Coordinators (RLCs) to join their Housing & Ancillary Services team, a dynamic unit managing nearly 5,000 student beds across 18 residence buildings. This role is designed to support students’ academic and personal development within a residential setting, aligning with the university’s mission to cultivate a supportive and inclusive environment.

This is a live-in, full-time, on-site position, requiring residence in assigned apartments within the housing facilities. The positions are temporary, spanning from August to May, with a work break in June and July (unpaid, though apartment access is maintained during this period). The RLC plays a key role in creating a vibrant student community, facilitating student success and wellness, and responding to emerging needs and crises.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Student Support & Crisis Management:
    Identify and respond to roommate conflicts, mental health challenges, safety concerns, incidents of sexual violence, suicide ideation, and injuries as per university protocols. Support students undergoing conduct processes, guiding them toward positive behavioral change.

  • Program Development & Event Coordination:
    Plan, coordinate, and evaluate educational and social events promoting wellness, inclusivity, academic success, and a sense of belonging. Lead regular house team and Don meetings, oversee program budgets, and foster team development.

  • Staff Supervision & Leadership:
    Direct and supervise Dons and other student staff, providing ongoing mentorship, feedback, and leadership. Collaborate across departments to execute consistent, campus-wide student experiences.

  • Community Engagement:
    Work closely with other RLCs (9 total in the unit) to ensure consistent residence life programming and student experiences. Develop strong relationships with campus partners and participate in on-call rotations.

Work Schedule:

  • August to May (salaried)

    • September to April: Monday–Friday, 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm (Wednesdays 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm)

    • May and August: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

  • On-call rotation: 1 week out of every 9 during the academic year

  • Work break (June–July): Unpaid leave with continued apartment access

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Three-year college diploma or bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

  • Experience: 1–2 years of related experience in student affairs, residence life, or similar roles

  • Certifications: Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening

  • Other: Strong interpersonal skills, leadership capabilities, crisis response knowledge, and commitment to equity, diversity, accessibility, Indigenization, and inclusion.
