Description:
BC Cancer, a part of the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), is seeking a Co-op Student, Research Genome – Clinical for its Vancouver campus. This is an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students to gain hands-on research experience in clinical cancer genomics, with an emphasis on real-world impact and professional development in a hybrid work environment.
The position is ideal for students looking to build a career in clinical research, genomic sciences, healthcare, or public health policy. The selected candidate will be embedded in ongoing cancer control and genomics research projects and will contribute to advancing patient-centered care and innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
Support clinical research studies focused on improving patient access to genomic programs
Obtain patient consent for participation in research
Assist in preparing specimen collection kits and research materials
Conduct literature reviews and summarize scientific findings
Enter, manage, and help analyze clinical and genomic data
Perform patient chart reviews to extract relevant health information
Communicate research progress and updates to internal teams
Provide general administrative and coordination support to the research group
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor's program in sciences, social sciences, healthcare, or communications
Proficient in Microsoft Office (intermediate level)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Detail-oriented, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities
Understanding of or willingness to learn about data analysis and basic statistics
Awareness and commitment to Indigenous Cultural Safety, anti-racism, and addressing colonial health care inequities
Familiarity with key Canadian and Indigenous anti-racism frameworks and legislation (e.g., TRC Calls to Action, UNDRIP, In Plain Sight, etc.)
Core Competencies & Cultural Understanding:
Demonstrated initiative and commitment to learning about Indigenous-specific racism, social justice, and dismantling systemic barriers
Foundational understanding of settler colonialism and its health impacts
Willingness to participate in professional development and cultural safety training
