Research Assistant

 

Description:

  • Ability to demonstrate assigned and scheduled tasks are done on own initiative and that results are beneficial to the success of the unit

  • Ability to demonstrate and explain how work is performed to individuals in other positions performing similar work

  • Maintain established procedures and programs including, but not limited to, the assurance of a hazard free working environment

  • Good relationships are established and maintained with all unit members, including part time members and students

  • Data entry in order to maintain existing databases and for the development of new databases

  • Proofreads, creates and assists in the editing process of spreadsheets and other documents for members within the unit

  • Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards set by external institutions (in regard to such legislation as FOIP, GCP) as well as those internally set by the University

  • Must maintain current safety regulations set out by internal or external institutions

  • Records research data on paper and in an electronic database

  • Aggregate data from multiple locations

  • Process data according to established procedures, maintaining accuracy and precision throughout all stages

  • Compare processed data to expected, providing feedback on completeness and accuracy

  • Willing to learn, test and provide feedback on new processes or software as part of the regular workflow


Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or Diploma or equivalent work experience is required
  • Working knowledge of neuroanatomy required
  • Previous experience with MRI research is an asset
  • Previous experience with visual assessment of MRI scans is strongly preferred
  • Previous experience processing MR images is an asset
  • Previous experience in human subject research is required
  • Experience with administration and interpretation of neuropsychological testing is preferred particularly in older populations or populations with stroke or cerebrovascular disease
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are a necessity
  • Ability to time manage and determine priorities
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with database platforms e.g. RedCap, is an asset
  • Previous experience in a medical/clinical setting, as well as medical terminology is an asset
  • Fully proficient interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills is an asset
  • Demonstrated strong communication with team members and study participants and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines is required
  • English fluency is essential
