William Osler Health System, a major Ontario hospital network and one of Canada’s most recognized healthcare institutions for diversity and patient safety, is currently seeking a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) – Hemodialysis to join its team in Brampton, Ontario. As a key member of a high-performing interdisciplinary team, this position offers the opportunity to deliver patient-inspired care within one of the country’s busiest and most innovative hospital systems.

This part-time, on-site role is ideal for a compassionate, detail-oriented, and technically proficient nurse with specialized training and hands-on experience in hemodialysis. The successful candidate will work in a fast-paced hospital environment serving a diverse patient population, contributing to high standards of clinical care and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, high-quality patient care by effectively applying the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation).

  • Deliver compassionate, culturally sensitive care with a strong emphasis on patient and family-centered practice.

  • Monitor and manage hemodialysis treatments, responding appropriately to patient conditions and escalating when necessary.

  • Ensure full compliance with infection prevention and control practices.

  • Conduct patient education and discharge planning to support continuity of care.

  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals and support staff to coordinate care delivery and achieve best patient outcomes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum two years of hemodialysis experience within the past five years.

  • Nephrology certificate required, or currently enrolled with a commitment to complete within 18 months of hire.

  • Completion of vascular access modules from the Ontario Renal Network.

  • Must pass a nephrology knowledge quiz with at least 80% to proceed to the interview phase.

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Association of Nephrology Nurses and Technologists (CANNT) standards and practices.

  • Familiarity with procedures related to patient prep, treatment, and post-treatment monitoring in hemodialysis settings.

Core Competencies:

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).

  • Proficient in nursing theory and its application in real-world clinical settings.

  • Valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

  • Medication administration and physical assessment certification (if graduated prior to 2005).

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in an inter-professional healthcare team.

  • Leadership ability, organizational skills, and conflict resolution capabilities.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make sound clinical decisions under pressure.

Schedule:

  • 8-hour shifts (days/evenings) including weekends and statutory holidays. Schedule subject to operational needs.
