Description:
William Osler Health System (Osler), a nationally recognized health care organization, is looking for a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to join their Postpartum Department. This regulated health care role requires a compassionate and skilled professional to provide quality, patient-focused nursing care to postpartum patients with predictable outcomes and lower risks. You will work as part of an inter-professional health care team, ensuring safe, professional, and culturally sensitive care within a diverse environment.
As an RPN in the Postpartum Department, you will be responsible for providing nursing services to ensure the safety and well-being of patients, including assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care.
Nursing Practice: Safe and effective nursing practice throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Patient-Centered Care: Provide compassionate and culturally sensitive care, ensuring the physical and psychological well-being of patients.
Emergency Response: Recognize changes in patients’ health status and appropriately respond to emergencies by transferring accountability as needed.
Health Teaching: Provide education and discharge instructions to patients and families, ensuring continuity of care.
Infection Control: Adhere to infection control measures.
Team Collaboration: Work effectively as part of the inter-professional team to provide optimal patient care.
Experience:
Minimum of two years of postpartum experience within the last five years.
Certifications:
Current neonatal resuscitation program certification or proof of enrollment.
Completion of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario breastfeeding e-learning course.
Obstetrics nursing certificate.
Operating room scrub experience or enrollment in the operating room course (preferred).
Core Competencies:
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Sound knowledge of nursing processes and responsibilities.
BCLS certification.
Medication administration certificate and patient assessment course for RPNs graduating before 2005.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Experience with patient and family health teaching.
Leadership and facilitation skills.
Excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking abilities.
Ability to work under stress and demonstrate exemplary clinical practice.
Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Shifts: 12-hour shifts, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to operational requirements).
