Fraser Health Authority, one of the largest and most respected healthcare organizations in British Columbia, is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) for its Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit / Psychiatric High Acuity Unit located in New Westminster, BC.
This is a Relief Full-Time position offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic, professional, and compassionate healthcare environment. The successful candidate will provide and coordinate psychiatric nursing care for patients experiencing severe mental health and psychosocial challenges requiring acute assessment, intervention, and stabilization.
Working under the standards of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), you will be part of an interprofessional team committed to providing person-centered and recovery-oriented care that prioritizes safety, respect, and dignity for all patients.
Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including physical and psychosocial evaluations.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nursing care and treatment plans.
Provide crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and supportive counseling for patients and families.
Deliver life skills training and manage responses to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure holistic and integrated care.
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and reports.
Advocate for patient rights, promoting autonomy, privacy, and respect.
Facilitate individual and group treatment sessions using cognitive, behavioral, and problem-solving approaches.
Participate in continuous quality improvement, research, and evaluation of clinical practices.
Support and mentor new nurses and students, contributing to a culture of learning and professional growth.
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing.
Current practicing registration with the BCCNM as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN).
Minimum one year of recent related mental health experience in an acute, tertiary, or community setting.
Comprehensive knowledge of mental illness, substance use treatment, and psychosocial rehabilitation.
Strong understanding of psychopharmacology, including medication indications and side effects.
Skilled in crisis intervention, counseling, and group facilitation.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Capable of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Physically able to perform all duties of the role.
Expertise in psychiatric nursing and crisis management.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and health policies related to mental health care.
Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize workload effectively.
Strong empathy and cultural sensitivity in delivering patient-centered care.
Ability to use clinical information systems and electronic documentation tools.
