Registered Neurophysiology Technologist

 

Description:

We are currently looking for a Registered Neurophysiology Technologist who can join our Intraoperative Neuromonitoring team and work under the guidance and supervision of a Board-Certified Intraoperative Neurophysiologist. In this role you will perform quality neurophysiological monitoring in an effort to prevent intraoperative neurological deficits during high risk neurosurgery and orthopedic cases. You will be responsible for confidently communicating patient related concerns to the surgeon and/or neurophysiologist in real time, efficiently and accurately.

Here's What You'll Get To Do
 

  • Performs a variety of test modalities to map and monitor the functional and structural integrity of the spinal cord, brain, and peripheral structures in real time as the surgery progresses. These tests include but not limited to EEG, SEPs, MEPs, EMG, , BAER, f-waves, h-reflexes, direct cortical and spinal cord mapping, depth of anesthesia monitoring and train-of-4.
  • Analyze and clinically interpret the patient's neurological responses during critical moments of the surgical procedure.
  • Ensuring equipment is in good working condition by performing routine/emergency testing and maintenance, reporting faults relating to all equipment in a timely manner to biomedical engineering, maintaining appropriate records, and taking necessary follow-up actions
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed written and electronic documentation of all procedures and ensures the accuracy, legibility, and completeness of all reports
  • Responsible for timely input of patient report data and maintenance of the patient record database to ensure results are submitted, organized, and accessible for future review.
  • Preparing and electrodes and stimulators prior to surgery in accordance with the hospitals infection prevention and control policies.
  • Responsible for being a self-initiated learner with a commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Collaborating in research with medical staff under the guidance of the neurophysiologist by assisting with the development of research ideas, performing collection of research data, reviewing and analyzing data, and assisting with the writing and production of research papers to foster innovation in clinical advancements and scientific knowledge.
  • Engaging in translation of knowledge, providing leadership in practice and teaching, and sharing expertise in best-practices locally, nationally, and internationally for the promotion of the field of IONM and as leaders in the complex care of children.
  • Performing cross-functional and other responsibilities consistent with the job description, as required.
  • Develops effective relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing, and other POCU staff to be able to participate in an integrated approach to patient care and demonstrates the ability to advocate for patient safety in a diplomatic manner.
     

Here's What You'll Need
 

  • A bachelor's degree in a related health science discipline, preferably neurophysiology
  • Certification in Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring (CNIM)
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions and maintain focus and concentration within the operating room environment.
  • Requires flexibility and on-call weekend work, urgent cases, and non-prebooked ambulatory cases
  • 2 years of Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring experience is preferred.
  • Membership with Canadian Association of Neurophysiological Monitoring (CANM) is also preferred
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
