Description:

London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), one of Canada's premier acute-care teaching and research hospitals, is hiring a Registered EMG Technician for their EMG Unit at University Hospital in London, Ontario. This full-time, on-site role requires a highly trained and compassionate individual with a strong foundation in neuroanatomy, electrophysiology, and patient-centered care practices.

As a Registered EMG Technician, you will work under the supervision of a consultant physician to perform and interpret complex diagnostic studies such as nerve conduction studies (NCS) and electromyography (EMG). Your role is pivotal in ensuring accurate diagnostics that inform clinical decisions, and your interaction with patients requires technical precision combined with sensitivity and support.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and troubleshoot EMG equipment to conduct high-quality nerve conduction and EMG studies.

  • Evaluate patients' physical conditions and comfort levels during procedures, offering support as needed.

  • Assist patients with limited mobility in assuming the correct testing positions.

  • Communicate test results and observations to the supervising physician.

  • Adapt the testing approach based on patients’ medical history, symptoms, and referring physician’s request.

  • Work independently in a high-pressure clinical setting while ensuring top-tier care.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g., Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Electrophysiology) or successful completion of an Electroneurodiagnosis program.

  • Certification from the Board of Registered Electromyography Technologists of Canada (BRETC) or willingness to obtain certification.

  • Deep knowledge of Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology.

  • Well-developed clinical thinking, planning, and evaluation skills.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to manage emotionally sensitive situations.

  • Ability to work autonomously while engaging effectively with patients and clinical teams.

  • Demonstrated commitment to patient- and family-centered care, safety, and LHSC’s core values.

  • Reliability in work attendance is essential.
