Regional Biosafety Officer

Description:

Charles River Laboratories is seeking a Regional Biosafety Officer to join their Health and Safety team in Montreal, QC. This position will coordinate the Regional Biosafety Program to ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and corporate biosafety standards across multiple sites in Quebec.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Oversee the regional biosafety network, including meetings, records, and licenses.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable biosafety and biosecurity laws, licenses, permits, and internal SOPs.

• Organize and document biosafety/biosecurity training for relevant staff.

• Develop and maintain documentation systems to support the program, including risk assessments and inventories.

• Conduct biosafety audits and inspections, report findings, and oversee corrective action implementation.

• Liaise with the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on behalf of license and permit holders.

• Review and approve biological safety-related activities conducted at the site level.

• Collaborate with the global Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) team to identify biosafety risks and drive improvements.

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Technical Degree in Biological Sciences.

• 3–5 years of relevant biosafety experience.

• Experience working with Non-Human Primates (NHP) is an asset.

• Strong interpersonal and project management skills.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required.

• Work Locations:

  • Laval, QC (1–2x/week)

  • Senneville, QC (3–4x/week)

  • Sherbrooke (Fleurimont), QC (1x/month)

• Full-time, permanent role (37.5 hours/week)
