Description:
The Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB), serving over 50,000 students across 90+ locations, is seeking a dedicated Psychologist to join its Special Education and Student Services Department. This is a critical role providing both direct and consultative psychological services to support student learning, well-being, and development across elementary and secondary schools.
The Psychologist will act as a key resource for students, families, and school staff, applying evidence-based practices in assessment, intervention, and consultation. Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Psychologist contributes to Individual Education Plans (IEPs), specialized placements, and mental health supports, while ensuring compliance with professional and legislative standards.
Conduct comprehensive psychological, psycho-educational, and diagnostic assessments of students’ cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning.
Provide individual counseling and psychotherapy to children and adolescents in schools.
Supervise unlicensed psychology staff, psychology residents, and practicum students.
Diagnose complex neurodevelopmental, mood, anxiety, and behavioral disorders.
Develop and implement evidence-based interventions that promote learning and academic success.
Consult with teachers and administrators on student achievement within a Response to Intervention (RTI) framework.
Support classroom and resource teachers in creating and monitoring Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Lead crisis response interventions, including suicide risk assessments, urgent care support, and critical incident responses.
Participate in Violence Threat Risk Assessments (VTRA).
Collaborate with families, schools, and community agencies to coordinate care and external supports.
Deliver workshops, training sessions, and professional development to staff on mental health and student well-being.
Maintain detailed records in compliance with the College of Psychologists of Ontario standards.
Stay current through professional development and ongoing training.
Doctoral degree in Psychology (or Master’s with Certificate of Registration as a Psychological Associate).
Current or eligible registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Declared competency in School Psychology (or eligibility to declare).
Strong background in assessment tools, interventions, and psychoeducational testing.
Excellent oral/written communication and collaboration skills.
Experience with children and youth in educational or clinical settings.
Proficiency with technology such as Q-Interactive and Laserfiche.
Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
Assets (Preferred):
Counseling or clinical psychology as a second declared competency.
Certification in VTRA (Violence Threat Risk Assessment).
Training in CBT, EFT, or other therapeutic modalities.
Familiarity with literacy and math screening tools (e.g., DIBELS, Acadience).
Prior experience within a school board setting.
