The Centre for Psychodynamic Insights, a Toronto-based virtual psychotherapy clinic, is seeking a Psychiatrist (Independent Contractor) specializing in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapy. This remote position is ideal for a psychiatrist committed to in-depth therapeutic relationships and personalized mental health care. The clinic’s mission centers on helping individuals uncover unconscious emotional processes that drive their current symptoms, leading to deep, meaningful transformation and lasting relief.

You will work virtually with adolescents and adults (16+), treating a broad range of complex psychological issues. In addition to providing psychodynamically informed psychotherapy, you will perform psychiatric assessments, prescribe medications where appropriate, and monitor their ongoing effects. The clinic values long-term therapeutic work, collaborative engagement, and personalized treatment approaches.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and prescribe psychotropic medications.

• Provide regular psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapy to clients aged 16 and older.

• Educate patients on the role of medications within a psychodynamic framework.

• Maintain client caseload of at least 8 patients weekly, with flexible frequency (1–5 times per week).

• Use JaneApp for scheduling, clinical documentation, and secure communications.

• Ensure confidential, professional virtual setup (high-quality camera, lighting, internet).

• Address diverse clinical concerns such as trauma, neurodevelopmental disorders, personality issues, and complex relational or sexual matters.

Required Qualifications:

• Registration in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

• Advanced expertise in psychodynamic or psychoanalytic therapy (e.g., Freudian, Jungian, Kleinian, Object Relations).

• Clinical experience with adolescents and adults.

• Commitment to the psychodynamic/psychoanalytic model (CBT-oriented clinicians need not apply).

• Comfortable working independently in a virtual clinic environment.

Preferred Assets:

• Experience working with children under 16.

• Background in couples or family therapy, pre/postnatal mental health, or eating disorders.

• Knowledge of Bowen Family Systems theory.

• French or other language fluency.

• Willingness to contribute to the Affordable Care Program by offering at least one sliding-scale patient weekly.

Availability:
Monday through Friday – availability across mornings, afternoons, and evenings preferred.

Start Date: Flexible – beginning in 2025 (exact date to be determined mutually).
