Description:

Queen’s University is seeking a Project Manager to join the Strategy and Partnerships directorate within Information Technology Services (IT Services) on a full-time, hybrid, 2-year term basis. This role is central to the successful delivery of IT-enabled initiatives across the university, involving business applications, systems, or infrastructure solutions.

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Delivery Management, the Project Manager (PM) will lead cross-functional project teams that include architects, engineers, analysts, and programmers. The PM is accountable for the entire project lifecycle including planning, execution, monitoring, budget management, stakeholder communication, change management, and post-implementation reviews. The role requires balancing technical leadership with strategic planning and effective team coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project teams to deliver IT/business solutions on time, within scope and budget

  • Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders to define objectives and manage operational transitions

  • Monitor project milestones, timelines, deliverables, and ensure quality assurance

  • Conduct risk management, performance evaluation, and apply continuous process improvements

  • Coordinate documentation, status reporting, and project governance

  • Provide strategic input and mentorship to team members, while upholding the University’s vision and values

  • Ensure alignment with university-wide IT best practices, policies, and standards

  • Promote team collaboration, resolve conflicts, and champion inclusion and diversity in all workstreams

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree in business, project management, IT, or a related discipline

  • Extensive experience managing complex IT projects and leading diverse teams

  • Strong technical communication skills, both written and verbal

  • PMP, PRINCE2, or similar certification is an asset

  • Experience in project scheduling, budgeting, and documentation

  • An equivalent mix of education and experience may be considered

  • Strategic and business acumen with a customer service focus

  • Familiarity with IT industry standards and change management methodologies

  • Skilled in conflict resolution, risk analysis, and process optimization

Decision-Making Responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of project execution, resource assignment, and timeline adjustment

  • Financial oversight on project-related expenditures within compliance policies

  • Judgment in implementing project-level solutions and recommending organizational improvements

  • Prioritizing resources and tasks in line with peak periods and institutional objectives

  • Determining efficient communication strategies for project updates
