The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a globally recognized biomedical and hospital research center located in Montreal, Quebec. As the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), it is affiliated with McGill’s Faculty of Medicine and supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS). The Program Manager, Cancer Research Program (CRP) will work under the direct supervision of the Program Leader and oversee both scientific and administrative aspects of cancer research operations. This role is essential in facilitating communication and coordination between program leadership, research teams, and the administrative departments at RI-MUHC.
Collaborate with the Strategic Initiatives Advisor of the Pre-Awards Office to identify and pursue funding opportunities that align with the Cancer Research Program’s objectives.
Manage and organize large-scale research grant and equipment applications (e.g., CIHR, CFI) and oversee their submission to funding agencies.
Build and maintain collaborative research partnerships across RI-MUHC, McGill University, and external institutions in Canada and abroad.
Liaise with the Performance Office to monitor, collect, and validate data for regular reporting of research activities, including internal and provincial reports.
Work with other Program Managers on interdisciplinary research initiatives to foster collaboration and innovation.
Supervise administrative staff and oversee operational activities such as space allocation, equipment coordination, internal communications, and onboarding of personnel.
Coordinate research-related events, meetings, seminars, and conferences within the Cancer Research Program.
Provide strategic input to senior management, identify operational challenges, and propose process improvements.
Develop and share best practices, templates, and operational tools to enhance research efficiency and program success.
Education: Doctorate Degree (PhD) in Cancer Molecular Biology or a related field, with expertise in molecular and/or genetic mechanisms underlying cancer development, progression, and treatment.
Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of postdoctoral research training in cancer or oncology (academic environment preferred).
Proven experience in health science research and large interdisciplinary projects.
Languages: Fluency in both French and English (spoken and written).
Professional Skills:
Strong scientific understanding of analytical and experimental methods.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong writing ability with prior publications and grant writing experience.
Familiarity with Canadian research funding policies and agencies (e.g., CIHR).
Effective problem-solving, analytical, and organizational abilities.
Self-motivated, able to work independently or collaboratively with minimal supervision.
Competitive salary range: $62,389.60 - $115,824.80 per year (commensurate with experience).
4 weeks of annual vacation, increasing to 5 weeks after 5 years of service.
