We are seeking a passionate Principal Product Designer, focused on Visualization Design to play a pivotal role in transforming complex labor market data into intuitive interactive knowledge graphs that empower our users to make informed decisions.
As a Visualization Designer specializing in labor market data, you will be responsible for identifying the most pertinent labor market data and creating compelling visualizations that streamline and enhance the decision-making processes of our users. Your work will directly impact various sectors of the job market, helping job seekers, employers, policymakers, and researchers.
What You Will Do
- User-Centric Research and Design: You will understand and communicate user needs, challenges, and goals by collaborating with cross-functional teams and conducting user research to identify what labor market data is essential for our different user types.
- Data Selection and Interpretation: You will work closely with data analysts and domain experts to identify and prioritize key indicators, trends, and insights. You will translate complex data into actionable, user-friendly visualizations.
- Visualization Design: Developing data visualization concepts, wireframes, and prototypes to represent data in an easily digestible format is part of every project of yours.
- Interactive Dashboards: You will design interactive dashboards that allow users to explore and filter data, providing a personalized experience for different user ability levels.
- Usability Testing: You will conduct usability testing and gather feedback to refine and improve the visualizations continually. To ensure that the designs are intuitive, accessible, and meet the diverse needs of our user base, your designs ready for handoff contain affordance notes for developers.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating closely with data scientists, engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders you ensure the effective integration of visualizations within our products and services.
- Mentor: You will provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers to foster a culture of design excellence within the organization.
What You Will Bring
- Strong design portfolio showcasing your ability to transform complex data into elegant and insightful visualizations.
- Proven experience (5+ years) in data visualization design, with a focus on labor market or similarly complex data.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau, D3.js, Power BI, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in using design software, such as Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team.
- Knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for creating interactive data visualizations is a plus. Having an opinion on frameworks for boilerplate visualizations helps too.
- A keen eye for detail, an understanding of user-centered design principles, and a passion for making data accessible and actionable.
