Principal Technical Architect

 

Description:

Bell, one of Canada's leading telecommunications companies, is seeking a Principal Technical Architect II with deep expertise in data architecture and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) to lead innovation and solution development across the organization. This hybrid position is primarily based in Montreal, QC, with additional options to work from Halifax, Ottawa, Toronto, or St. John’s. Candidates must be based in Canada and able to attend a Bell office at least three days per week.

In this pivotal role, you will partner with data scientists, engineers, and business stakeholders to architect and deliver advanced AI solutions and define Bell’s data and AI roadmap. You’ll be responsible for implementing scalable, secure, and innovative architectures that integrate modern AI/ML capabilities with existing data systems—including SAP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and delivery of AI and data-driven solutions aligned with Bell’s business goals and technology strategy

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and convert them into scalable technical specifications

  • Develop architectural plans including data pipelines, AI applications, and machine learning models ensuring scalability and maintainability

  • Provide mentorship to junior architects and engineers to promote skill development and a collaborative culture

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in AI, data management, and ML to drive continuous innovation

  • Lead proof-of-concept projects for new AI tools and architectures to demonstrate value to stakeholders

  • Ensure compliance with data governance policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements

  • Participate in architecture review boards to guide strategic decisions on technical solutions

  • Contribute to strategic planning, including AI/data roadmaps and budgeting in line with business priorities

  • Stay up to date with cutting-edge advancements by attending conferences, workshops, and ongoing training

Additional SAP-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Practical experience with SAP data environments, including integration tools, SAP Joule, and SAP Analytics Cloud

  • Deep understanding of SAP data models, data governance, and reporting tools

  • Familiarity with SAP Business Technology Platform and SAP Leonardo (AI/ML capabilities)

  • Experience with SAP data transformation and migration projects

  • Ability to seamlessly embed AI into SAP ecosystems while ensuring compliance and security

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (Master’s or PhD preferred)

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or a similar role

  • Strong hands-on experience in cloud-based data and AI solutions

  • Solid knowledge of machine learning algorithms, statistical modeling, and data visualization tools

  • Experience building scalable data pipelines using Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, etc.

  • Familiarity with generative AI models (e.g., Google Gemini, Amazon Q)

  • Expertise in data warehousing, relational and NoSQL databases, and data modeling

  • In-depth knowledge of data governance, quality management, and security protocols

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; able to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Data Engineer) highly desirable

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s or PhD in a relevant field

  • Experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, Pig)

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (CI/CD)

  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based ML platforms (Databricks, SageMaker, Azure ML)

  • Experience with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA)

  • Background in graph databases and knowledge graph technologies

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities

Work Conditions:

  • Hybrid work profile (3 days/week onsite at a Bell office in Canada)

  • Occasional evening or weekend availability for deployments and critical issue resolution

  • Occasional travel for project delivery and coordination

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

  • Must meet French language proficiency requirements for roles in Quebec
