Principal Software Engineer

Description:

Sun Life is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (Pega) to join its Toronto team. This role plays a critical leadership function, being responsible for the technical design, delivery, and quality of Pega-based solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in BPM, enterprise software architecture, and a proven track record of delivering complex case management solutions using Pega.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead projects, guide developers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams including architects, business analysts, and testers. You will ensure that technical specifications are aligned with business goals and are implemented with high standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Pega solution delivery by collaborating with process architects and business stakeholders

• Provide technical guidance to developer resources and review their deliverables

• Estimate project timelines and costs; contribute to defining project plans and deliverables

• Create Definition of Done (DoD) for user stories with Product Owners

• Design and implement high-level and detailed technical solutions using Pega

• Oversee the full cycle of coding, testing, debugging, and deployment

• Document data requirements, workflows, controls, and interfaces

• Ensure alignment with both onshore and offshore development teams

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Over 10 years of experience delivering large-scale Pega case management systems

• In-depth knowledge of Pega PRPC architecture, design, and implementation

• Expertise in BPM methodologies, tools, and enterprise solution design

• Experience working in Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid environments

• Strong collaboration, estimation, and documentation skills

• Certified Lead System Architect (CLSA) certification is an advantage
