Principal Data Architect

Description:

Caylent, a fully remote cloud-native services company, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Data Architect to lead the design and implementation of sophisticated cloud-based data solutions for its clients. The role focuses on providing strategic roadmaps, acting as a subject matter expert for data engineering, and ensuring the development of industry-leading standards and best practices across cloud data systems.

As a Principal Data Architect, you will collaborate closely with pre-sales, architects, and engineers to define engagements, perform technical interviews, provide mentorship, and oversee the adoption of cutting-edge technologies in AWS data landscape. This role demands expertise across traditional data systems and new data paradigms including big data, machine learning, MLOps, and GenAI foundational models.

You will be responsible for creating strategic data solutions, standardizing architectural practices, and documenting approaches that drive organizational transformation. The role may require up to 25% travel based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define strategic data roadmaps and consultative outcomes for clients.

• Act as a data engineering SME for pre-sales engagements.

• Conduct technical interviews and provide technical guidance to architects and engineers.

• Oversee the development and implementation of data standards, governance, and procedures.

• Leverage AWS data technologies for scalable, secure, and efficient solutions.

Requirements:

• 4+ years AWS data experience.

• 10+ years in complex data system design and implementation.

• Expertise in at least two traditional data areas:

  • Relational database design, optimization, and migration

  • Data modeling (transactional & analytics)

  • BI dashboards & visualizations

  • Data Governance & Master Data Management (MDM)

• Expertise in at least two modern data areas:

  • Big data processing (Spark, Streaming, NoSQL)

  • Machine Learning & MLOps (Sagemaker)

  • GenAI foundational models (Bedrock)

  • DataOps practices (IaC, Data Testing, Data Versioning)

• Experience with at least two of:

  • Infrastructure as Code tools

  • CI/CD pipelines and tools

  • Python for analytics & automation (numpy, pandas, matplotlib)

• Strong documentation and standardization skills.
