Description:

Capital One Canada is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Associate, Risk & Controls Management to join their team in Toronto, Ontario, in a full-time capacity. This pivotal role within the First Line Risk Office involves enhancing the organization's control environment and supporting a robust risk management framework. You will serve as a key resource in executing risk governance and ensuring alignment with Capital One’s Enterprise Control Standard.

The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and analytical skills, a deep understanding of risk principles, and the ability to collaborate across diverse internal teams. You will have the opportunity to impact business success directly by identifying control gaps, supporting remediation efforts, and helping to shape a culture of proactive risk management.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure continued adherence to Capital One’s Enterprise Control Standard

  • Provide guidance, tools, and oversight to business owners on developing effective control suites

  • Remediate design and operational control gaps by working with Control Owners

  • Analyze control suite health and effectiveness across Canadian operations

  • Deliver training sessions, tools, and guidance to enable strong risk practices

  • Participate in enterprise-wide risk community forums and share insights

  • Support governance and application of control standards and reporting metrics

  • Collaborate with Second Line functions such as ORM, Compliance, and Enterprise Risk

  • Contribute to special projects and process improvement initiatives


Basic Qualifications:

  • Solid understanding of risk management, three lines of defense, and governance principles

  • At least 3 years of experience in Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, or Governance

  • At least 1 year of experience in the financial industry

  • Strong documentation and communication skills (briefing memos, leadership decks)

  • Proficiency in Google Suite


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with credit card operations and related business processes

  • Working knowledge of cloud data platforms such as Snowflake

  • Exposure to COSO ERM framework

  • Experience with Agile methodologies and environments

  • Proficiency in SQL, Tableau, or Python for data visualization and control automation

  • Controls testing experience, including automated/hybrid controls

  • Understanding of Lean and Six Sigma tools and practices
