Description:
College of the North Atlantic (CNA) is seeking an experienced and dedicated Instructor for its Powerline Technician program at the Happy Valley–Goose Bay Campus. This role provides an exciting opportunity to shape the next generation of powerline technicians by delivering both theoretical and practical training aligned with Level I (Pre-Employment) of the Plan of Training for the Powerline Technician trade.
The Instructor will design, facilitate, and deliver instructional content that supports student success, incorporates hands-on learning, and ensures a safe, engaging, and student-centered environment. This position plays a vital role in equipping students with the knowledge, technical expertise, and professional values required to excel in the powerline industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver theory and practical components of Level I Powerline Technician training.
Adapt teaching style and strategies while aligning with course objectives.
Collaborate with other faculty members for consistent curriculum delivery.
Prepare and implement instructional techniques, modules, and assessments.
Establish student performance objectives and administer evaluations.
Meet with students to track and support progress.
Ensure a safe, inclusive, and professional learning environment.
Provide academic advising and mentorship to students.
Maintain classroom management aligned with CNA policies.
Participate in program accreditation, professional development, and industry best practices.
Complete learner performance reports and prior learning assessments as required.
Qualifications:
Interprovincial Journeyperson Certification in Powerline Technician (Operating).
Minimum of six years combined apprenticeship training and recent relevant industry experience.
Strong knowledge of powerline concepts, industry safety procedures, and instructional technology.
Ability to clearly communicate complex concepts and engage students with real-life examples.
Effective organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Commitment to professional development and maintaining trade certifications.
Conditions of Employment:
Satisfactory Certificate of Conduct required upon request.
Verification of credentials and certifications required.
Credentials obtained outside Canada must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.
Completion of Post-Secondary Instructor Certification courses as required.
Courses may be assigned outside regular instruction area based on qualifications.
