The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) — a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre affiliated with McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine — is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (or a PhD student seeking a thesis project) to join its Internal Medicine, Nephrology Department. This role provides an opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research focused on disaster management in kidney care, helping shape health policy and preparedness for vulnerable kidney disease patients during natural and human-caused disasters.

At RI-MUHC, you will join a multidisciplinary environment dedicated to scientific discovery and innovation in patient-centered medicine. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Sandal and a co-supervising professor, receiving guidance from a supportive team including a research assistant and lab assistant or Master’s student.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research project entitled “Obtaining patient, caregiver, and provider perspective on disaster management in kidney care.”

  • Design and implement the study, including preparation for ethics approval, participant recruitment, data collection, and data analysis.

  • Collaborate with national and international research teams across Canada and beyond.

  • Prepare manuscripts and submit abstracts for relevant conferences and institutional seminars.

  • Disseminate research findings through academic publications and knowledge-sharing platforms.

  • Ensure project organization, maintain meticulous research documentation, and demonstrate effective communication with collaborators.


Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Environmental Health, Policy, or related discipline.

  • Proven experience in qualitative research methodologies and use of NVivo or similar qualitative data analysis software.

  • Fluent in English (additional languages are an asset).

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Evidence of research productivity (e.g., publications, presentations) is an asset.
