Portfolio Operations Manager

 

Description:

The Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) — one of the world’s largest and most respected pension funds — is seeking a Manager, Portfolio Operations for its Public Securities (POPS) team in Toronto, Ontario. This position is integral to overseeing the accuracy, integrity, and operational performance of investment-related data and processes across publicly traded securities.

The Manager will play a key leadership role within the Finance Operations Division, working under the Public Securities Operations team. The incumbent will ensure operational excellence, implement process improvements, and support transformation initiatives that enhance the accuracy and value of portfolio operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the accuracy and reasonability of downstream investment data used for portfolio management, accounting, performance, risk, and compliance for publicly traded securities.

  • Oversee daily operational activities, ensuring adherence to financial controls and operational standards, while resolving complex issues affecting portfolio P&L, positioning, or financial reporting.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement process improvements, enhancing efficiency, data accuracy, and value delivery to partners.

  • Support the execution of key projects by researching requirements, analyzing alternatives, and recommending solutions that manage risk and operational impact.

  • Ensure operational readiness for new investment strategies and execution improvements, including updates to systems and reporting processes.

  • Manage and measure key relationships with Portfolio Managers, Risk, Tax, Legal, Financial Reporting, Prime Brokers, Custodians, Counterparties, and Vendors, ensuring seamless collaboration and performance.

  • Provide timely responses to partner inquiries and maintain service excellence.

  • Lead and mentor team members while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related discipline.

  • Professional designation preferred — CPA (CA, CGA, CMA) or CFA.

  • 6–8 years of experience in Middle Office, Product Control, or Investment Operations, ideally within the asset management or capital markets industry.

  • In-depth knowledge of public markets and securities.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and implement process improvements.

  • Proven track record in driving operational change and delivering initiatives in complex environments.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with Portfolio Managers and cross-functional teams, balancing governance requirements with service delivery.

  • Experience managing senior leadership communications and team-based decision-making processes.
