We are currently seeking a qualified Mechanical & Piping Field Specialist/Engineer to join our Mining team, based out of Saskatoon, SK. Bantrel is working with K+S Potash Canada (K+S) as an Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT) to expand production at K+S’s Bethune solution potash mine near Moose Jaw and Regina, Saskatchewan. The final production capacity is intended to grow over the next decades to 4M tonnes per year, doubling the current production output of potash. Key team members will support the project from the K+S head office in Saskatoon and at Bethune mine, with additional support from Calgary, Edmonton, and Toronto as required.
This position is based in Bethune, Saskatchewan, with a Tuesday to Wednesday 9 on/5 off schedule consisting of 10-hour shifts. Relocation & Living Out Allowance: Preference will be given to candidates who reside locally. However, for preferred candidates who currently reside within Canada, relocation assistance or a living out allowance (LOA) may be available, subject to eligibility.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensure construction aligns with design, quality, and progress standards.
- Primary field engineer to review and approve welding-related documentation, such as
- Welder qualification
- Welding matrix
- Welding data reports
- Review subcontractor submittals and coordinate cross-discipline input.
- Support development of procedures, including brownfield-specific protocols.
- Lead coordination for tie-ins and interface management.
- Conduct field inspections, sign check sheets, and verify contractor progress.
- Perform quality audits and document findings.
- Participate in progress, quality, and safety meetings.
- Prepare field sketches and specify temporary facility requirements.
- Execute walkdowns, manage punch lists, and verify closure.
- Review turnover documentation and installed quantities.
- Manage TQs, FCNs, FCRs, and NCRs through to resolution.
- Communicate and coordinate design changes with construction and EoR.
- Maintain project data systems and generate required reports.
- Confirm maintenance and inspection of mechanical/piping systems.
- Support constructability, risk, and safety-in-design reviews.
- Prioritize tasks to meet project KPIs and deadlines.
- Mentor team members and promote a collaborative, safety-first culture.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience
- A professional Engineering license valid in Province of Saskatchewan is seen as an asset.
- Minimum 5-10 years of relevant construction/field experience in an Mechanical discipline within multi-discipline, EPCM/EPC environments supporting large capital projects.
- Strong understanding of quality management processes and systems, ISO standards and auditing processes related to major project delivery or program management.
- Functional knowledge of industry leading functional standards and engineering management practices in a multi discipline engineering environment including 3D data centric platforms
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including functional managers and discipline leads on the project, clients, outside vendors, and contractors.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis training
