The City of Mississauga is seeking enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and client-focused Exercise Counsellors & Personal Trainers to join their Meadowvale Fitness team. Key Responsibilities
Exercise Counsellor Duties:
Demonstrate proper techniques for using exercise equipment and ensure clients maintain correct form and safety.
Enforce fitness etiquette and facility guidelines to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
Conduct safety inspections, assist with daily cleaning, and monitor fitness areas for hazards.
Support customer service operations by conducting facility tours and assisting during emergencies.
Verify participant wristbands for specific fitness classes when required.
Administer emergency first aid as needed.
Conduct “Fitness Starters” sessions for new members, including cardio and strength demonstrations, blood pressure and heart rate monitoring, and basic exercise counselling.
Act as a knowledgeable resource, providing guidance and motivation to members.
Personal Trainer Duties:
Contact clients to arrange assessments and training sessions.
Conduct comprehensive fitness assessments including body composition, blood pressure, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and strength analysis.
Review and interpret health screening questionnaires (PAR Q) to ensure client safety.
Design individualized exercise programs that align with each client’s goals, needs, and limitations.
Provide ongoing motivation, adjust programs as clients progress, and ensure proper exercise techniques.
Modify training routines based on fitness principles to promote continuous improvement.
Maintain professional and supportive communication to encourage client engagement and consistency.
Skills and Qualifications
Certified Personal Training credential from a recognized organization (e.g., CanFitPro, ACE, ACSM, NSCA, CPTN, or equivalent).
Minimum completion of two years in a College Diploma or University Degree program related to fitness or health.
Valid Emergency First Aid and CPR “B” certification.
Strong communication and leadership skills, with proven ability to guide and motivate clients.
Demonstrated familiarity with diverse training methods and fitness program design.
Must successfully complete a Level 3 Vulnerable Sector Check at own expense.
Hours of Work:
Up to 24 hours per week, with flexible scheduling based on program needs.

Meadowvale Community Centre, Mississauga, Ontario.
