Description:
The Long Point Region Conservation Authority (LPRCA) is hiring a passionate and knowledgeable Outdoor Educator to deliver engaging, curriculum-based environmental science programs to students at the Backus Heritage Conservation Area (BHCA). This role is ideal for candidates with a background in environmental sciences or education who are excited to share their knowledge of the natural world in a dynamic, hands-on setting.
The Outdoor Educator will be a key contributor to the LPRCA’s Conservation Education Centre team, reporting directly to the Curator. They will be responsible for developing and evaluating high-quality education programs rooted in Ontario’s curriculum, tailored to a wide range of school-aged learners, and aimed at fostering environmental stewardship.
This is a contract position beginning September 8, 2025, and ending December 5, 2025.
Design, deliver, and assess curriculum-aligned environmental education programs tailored to various age groups and learning styles.
Regularly update and maintain the education manuals, teaching materials, and classroom resources.
Coordinate with the Heritage Programmer to schedule bookings, communicate with teachers, and manage program logistics.
Maintain excellent customer service standards while interacting with school staff, visitors, and volunteers.
Track and report on education program metrics and performance indicators.
Maintain and organize program equipment, perform routine cleaning duties, and ensure safety protocols are followed for all participants.
Support other heritage and conservation events as required.
University or college degree in Environmental Sciences, Education, Recreation, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in educational program development and delivery, preferably in outdoor or environmental education settings.
Demonstrated ability to create programs based on Ontario's curriculum guidelines with clear learning outcomes and evaluation methods.
Strong understanding of the natural history of the Long Point Watershed.
Excellent oral communication, writing, and research skills.
Well-organized, self-motivated, and capable of working both independently and within a team.
Valid Class G driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle (due to the lack of public transportation).
Successful completion of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check is required prior to hiring.
Ability to lift and carry 20–30 lbs regularly.
Must be able to walk on gravel paths, uneven terrain, and stairs.
Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor environments, in various weather conditions.
Willingness to be exposed to natural elements such as pollen, dust, smoke, and local wildlife.
Location: Backus Heritage Conservation Area, Port Rowan, Ontario
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM
Some weekends, evenings, and extended hours may be required for events.
Start Date: September 8, 2025
End Date: December 5, 2025
Free admission to LPRCA Conservation Areas during the contract period.
Eligible for enrollment in the OMERS pension plan.
